CRYSTALS. INVENTORY. FEROCIOUS MATCH.

Screened at Mad House Helsinki, April 2021

CRYSTALS. INVENTORY. FEROCIOUS MATCH. were developed in 2020 and screened online for BAD HOUSE 2021, the annual live art festival by Mad House Helsinki. This triptych of films connects with the raw sense of loss and heartbreak experienced during the lockdowns of 2020.

Each work focuses on an object as protagonist, and through this highlights the way in which we attach certain sensations and emotional ranges to the inanimate. This is a coping mechanism, a way of manifesting the viscera of grief into the physical.

Crystals is a single-shot close up of breasts organising rocks, crystals, and pebbles in an awkward and humorous attempt to draw them together.

Inventory
watches a hand scribbling out a text while it is read aloud, announcing itself as an architectural love letter moving through memories of objects and spaces.

Ferocious Match was shot spontaneously in a storm with a willow tree, the tumultuous tempest standing as a companion in the midst of heartbreak.

Together, this gentle treatment of objects considers how loss is emptied and shared with the non-human, respecting their ability to aid us in recovery.
