‘Crude Care,’ 2021 commissioned for British Art Show 9
Opening at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, 22nd January 2022

Crude Care, commissioned by Aberdeen Art Gallery for British Art Show 9 will be shown in January as part of the exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, before British Art Show 9 moves to Manchester and Plymouth. The performance element of the work will grow and change over the course of the exhibition.

Crude Care is an interrelating body of work comprising a large ceramic sculpture, performance and film produced in collaboration with Anne Tetzlaff. The work identifies and explores parallels between the extractive industries of oil and granite that have long been part of Aberdeen's economy and inform its landscape, and the mining of human energy through the professional care work system in the UK. Developed with Aberdeen-based nurses and care workers, Crude Care brings to the fore the unseen bodies that act behind social systems.
