Florence Peake has an exquisite practice. Her work is unique, poetic and moving. - Helen Paris (Curious Theatre Company)

About Florence Peake

I am a London-based artist creating performance work of an interdisciplinary nature. With a training in dance and a background in painting, my performance practice includes the use of drawing, painting and sculpture materials combined with found, appropriated and fabricated objects in relationship to the moving body. The current introduction of text, either spoken by the performer or recorded prose for sound installations, acts as a poetic layering and play with multiplicity of meaning within a given theme. Site and the placement of performance and audience are important factors in my work.

Recent work includes Paper Portraits (National Portrait Gallery); Duets for Objects (Coventry Cathedral, The Place, Elsewhere Museum in North Carolina); The Bird Trilogy (Prague Fringe Festival); the solo Eight Moments Wake Me (Laban/ Hackney Empire/ San Francisco fringe festival); Valediction (National Review of Live Art 2009).

As a performer I have worked extensively with a wide and varied range of choreographers, filmmakers and performance artists including Gaby Agis, Joe Moran, Mirranda Pennell, Kirstie Richardson, Nicola Conibere, Serena Korda, Robin Deacon and Gary Stevens. Collaborative projects have been with artists such as Katye Coe, Joe Moran, Polly Hudson and Sally Dean.
